An Education Program Update

Hello everyone! I thought today would be a good time to provide an update regarding our Education Program for Street Children. We have gone from an enrollment of 24 children before January, to now having over 68 children enrolled. The students range in age from 6-20 years old and are in 1st through 4th grade. So, you can see that we have a lot of work to do to make sure that our students leave our program academically successful!

Additionally, we recently purchased school books for every child in the program. Each grade was able to select three textbooks that the teachers felt were appropriate for the students. We chose textbooks that teach children how to write, read, and complete basic math skills. We are starting with these 3 fundamental core subjects, and will hopefully increase the number of textbooks for each student as we progress through the school year.

Furthermore, we were also able to purchase uniforms for 20 students that had started participating in the program since October of last year, and students that have had great attendance since the beginning of the year. As a result, other students who have not received their uniforms are incentivized to come to school every day.

We are so grateful for the 24 children that have been sponsored through our sponsorship program. The sponsorship helps us to pay for uniforms, school books and supplies, as well as a nutritious daily meal. Union School, a private school here in Port-au-Prince has invited their classes, 3rd-12th grade to sponsor our students, and they have come through, sponsoring 12 of our children!

It has been a great month for the Education Program! We will be even more pleased when as a result of our program, our students become academically successful! As always, thank you for your continued support, and helping us to make a difference in the lives of children in Haiti.
